Laminate floor care guide

Although virtually maintenance-free, understanding the characteristics, proper care and maintenance of laminate will ensure long–lasting beauty, comfort and durability in your new floor. Here are a few tips to get started.

Cleaning

Vacuum regularly
Vacuum your laminate floors using a soft bristle brush attachment. Avoid vacuum attachments with ‘beater bars’, which could damage your floor. Place long bristle welcome mats placed at all outside entrances for people to wipe their feet on before walking on your floors.

Mop
Most laminate floors may be lightly damped mopped when needed. Avoid standing water as this may cause the seams between the planks to peak.

Don't use oil soaps
Avoid using over the counter oil-based soaps, soap-based detergents, and one-step clean and shine products on your laminate floors. These products will leave a dull finish on your floors.

Maintenance

Use the proper chair glide
Any furniture that rests directly on top of a laminate floor should have floor protectors, or wide furniture coasters under all feet.

Trim pet's claws
Even though laminate floors are durable, pet's claws may scratch the surface if they are not trimmed regularly.

Never wax

Laminate floors have a very dense surface and floor waxes will not stick to the surface.

Wipe spills immediately

When liquids spill on your laminate floor, use a slightly damp white cloth, or paper towel to blot and dry the affected area.
