Our group of 4 stores is locally owned and family operated in Wisconsin. We employ 30+ employees and contract with over 50 installation contractors from throughout the State of Wisconsin - from Beloit to Wausau.

Ray Peters and his son, Michael founded the Michael Peters, President recieving award from Carpets Plus Americabusiness and the Peters Family continues as the principal shareholders to this day. Numerous family members have been and many remain in various positions within the company.

The business began in 1971, originally operating under the name of Madison Carpetland USA. We changed our name to Carpets Plus of Wisconsin/ColorTile in 1997 to better reflect the full compliment of product lines, which have grown to include vinyl flooring, tile, hardwood, area rugs, stone, luxury vinyl and laminate flooring.

Officers include Executive Vice President Gary Pickney and Vice President Mike Wanta. Heather Kirch is the company Secretary, and Kate Lavin is the Treasurer. Regan Peters and Shannon Howery are the Assistant Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Keep in mind that buying flooring yourself, especially carpet from the internet, has a few drawbacks:

  • It is usually the buyer who has responsibility to take the product off the truck. Many rolls of carpet
weight over 500 pounds; quite difficult without special equipment.
  • Product must be inspected for defects. If a problem is found several companies are involved - the shipper, the seller, and the manufacturer.
  • Inexperienced installers often have problem with seaming flooring products. It can be very disappointing to live with a seam in your room. The positioning of carpet seams and how visible they are represent one of the major stumbling blocks.
